JONESBORO -- Jonesboro charities will be the big winners after The MALL AT TURTLE CREEK completes a week-long schedule of events celebrating its grand opening.
"We plan to give back to the community throughout our tenure in Jonesboro," said Lindsey Moore, community relations manager for Barnes & Noble. "Our company has a policy of community giving throughout the areas where we operate. The Friends and Family night on Tuesday, March 28, will benefit the Literacy League of Craighead and Poinsett counties."
Among opening ceremonies and ribbon cuttings, The MALL AT TURTLE CREEK will open to a gala of celebrity impersonators and private tours on the same Tuesday evening.
"We are presenting the mall to ticket holders Tuesday evening between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in a red carpet affair," said Bruce Burrow. "The event will feature impersonators and a private walk-through of the mall."
Guests attending the event will walk a red carpet to enter the mall and be treated to special attention, he said.
The event will cost attendees $100 a person, which will go to benefit the St. Bernard's Charitable Foundation.
"The week of events is going to be unlike anything Jonesboro has seen before," Burrow said.
The week will feature another charitable contribution as Dillard's will open its doors at 6 p.m. on Tuesday for a ticketed event that will benefit Northeast Arkansas schools.
"The tickets have been out to the schools where students could sell tickets for the event," said Karen Gray, store manager. "The revenue generated from ticket sales goes to the schools, plus Dillard's will be splitting all sales between 6 and 9 p.m. that evening with area schools. The event is meant to help generate revenue they can use to purchase new equipment, books and other supplies."
The ribbon to The MALL AT TURTLE CREEK will be cut at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The first 500 shoppers will receive gift bags courtesy of The MALL AT TURTLE CREEK, and all shoppers can register to win a new car from Central Auto Group, a 42-inch plasma television and a $1000 shopping spree.
Thursday is Children's Day at The MALL AT TURTLE CREEK and will feature the unveiling of the St. Bernard's Hospital Fun Forest Playland.
Children will be treated to the arrival of the Easter Bunny and other animated characters, and the first 200 children will receive special gifts.
On April 1 Dillard's will welcome daytime soap opera star Greg Rikaart of "The Young and The Restless" to sign autographs in the new cosmetic section.
Opening week activities are expected to generate more than $20,000 for local charities and schools, Burrow said.
